wygłosi wykład pt.: ”From Medicine, Through Hydrology, to Trail Running and Back”.
Abstrakt:
What does the shape of the human cornea have in common with the flow of an underground river, glacial oscillations, and the pacing strategy of an ultra-runner? Over the course of my research career, the pursuit of complex, real-world problems has led to a highly diverse portfolio of mathematical models. In this talk, I will share the results of applying mathematical modeling to a wide spectrum of disciplines. We will navigate through my work in biomathematics — focusing on ophthalmology, capillary phenomena, and complex biofluid flows — and examine how similar problem-solving paradigms apply to the earth sciences, including hydrology and paleoclimatology. Furthermore, we will explore the intersection of behavioral science and biomechanics through the rigorous modeling of trail running. Ultimately, this presentation serves as a tour of applied mathematics in action, demonstrating how venturing beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries can yield unexpected solutions.
