Title: Discrete neuron models from the point of view of dynamical system theory
Abstract: Map-based neuron models are an important tool in modelling neural dynamics and can be considered as an alternative to usually computationally costlier models based on continuous or hybrid dynamical systems. However, due to their discrete nature, rigorous
mathematical analysis might be challenging. I will present new theoretical and numerical results on two well-known map based models, Chialvo model and Courbage-Nekorkin-Vdovin model, as well as algorithms for determining itineraries of periodic orbits which is important from the point of view of determining neuron's spike-patterns fired. The analytical tools involved in this study include, among others, S-unimodal maps, Lorenz-like maps and rotation theory. Our extension of some of the results in these areas, as well as developed algorithms, can be applied in other branches of science and mathematical modeling where unimodal or Lorenz-like maps appear naturally.
The talk is related to the procedure of awarding a PhD degree in Mathematics.
