It is our great pleasure to welcome the visiting professor dr hab. Marcin Balcerzyk at the Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics. Prof. Balcerzyk is an expert in the field of molecular imaging PET/CT and advanced treatment of medical imaging working in National Accelerator Center at the University of Seville, Spain. Within the frame of POWER 3.5 "Zintegrowany program rozwoju Politechniki Gdańskiej" our guest will conduct the seminars for students of Nanotechnology and give a faculty seminar.
We wish our Guest a pleasant stay at our University, fruitful scientific discussions and a good time in Gdańsk!
Seminar: Friday 25th October 2019 at 11.15 am., room no 121 Main Buliding.
Title: Processing of a computer tomography image of subarachnoid hemorrhage and cryopreservation process.
Abstract: As part of the seminar, I will introduce the use of imaging with computed tomography (CT) in predicting the results of spinal hemorrhage, and in cryopreservation of tissues and large organs. I will also introduce the use of Positron emission tomography (PET) in the pre-clinical phase of developing new radiotracers.
Biographical note: Marcin Balcerzyk graduated from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and chemistry at Nicolaus Copernicus University. After the scholarship of the Kościuszko Foundation at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Boston, he defended his doctoral thesis at the former Institute of Nuclear Studies in Świerk under the direction of Prof. Marek Moszyński and Prof. Andrzej Wojtowicz in the field of new detectors for positron tomography. At this institute, he conducted research in the energy resolution of scintillators. He was a trainee at the Weizmann Institute of Science Elementary Particles department in Israel under Prof. Amos Breskin working on the gas detectors in the field of visible radiation. In 2017 he received a doctorate degree in energy resolution of scintillators in the Faculty of Technical Physics and Applied Mathematics of the Gdańsk University of Technology. He conducted research in neuroscience over the molecular mechanisms of learning and memory under the guidance of Prof. Leszek Kaczmarek at the Nencki Institute of Polish Academy of Science. As a Marie-Curie scholar, he worked on the molecular imaging of PET/CT in animal models of stroke and simulation of new PET tomographs at Complutense University in Madrid, Spain in the laboratory of Prof. Miguel Angel Pozo. He currently works in the field of molecular imaging PET/CT and advanced treatment of medical imaging at the University of Seville, Spain. He is a co-inventor in two patents and co-founder of a spin-off company that acted in the field of cryopreservation.
