Fulbright Graduate Student Award 2023-24 is a scholarship program for people with Polish citizenship interested in starting second or third level of studying in the USA.

The scholarship is awarded for the first year of Master’s, PhD or other studies leading to a graduate degree at in American University (e.g. Graduate Artist Diploma), with the possibility of extending funding for the second year of study.

The program accepts applications for all fields of study, except for medical and related studies requiring direct contact with the patient, LLM (Masters of Laws) and MBA (Master of Business Administration) programs. Within the program it is possible to go to any accredited American University in the United States.

Lenght of the scholarship

1 academic year with the possibility of extension for the second year.

Scholarship value

Scholarships are awarded in the amount of up to USD 47 000 and are intended primarily to cover the grantee’s living expenses. The amount of the monthly scholarship is estimated by IIE or the host university. The final amount of the scholarship depends on the location of the host institution, real needs and available financial resources.

The scholarship rates for example universities are:

  • Indiana University (Bloomington, IN): $ 1,320 per month,
  • University of Florida (Gainesville, FL): $ 1,410 per month,
  • University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA): $ 1,410 per month,
  • University of Texas (Dallas, TX): $ 1,520 per month,
  • University of Chicago (Chicago, IL): $ 1,885 per month,
  • Boston College (Boston, MA): $ 2,390 per month,
  • University of California (Berkeley, CA): $ 2,660 per month.

The scholarship also includes:

  • lump sum for the travel costs of the scholarship holder to and from the USA (USD 1 500),
  • partial or full coverage of tuition and / or fees required by the host institution, including fees related to university medical insurance (depending on available funds),
  • one-time allowance for relocation and development in the USA (USD 1,300),
  • a one-time allowance to cover conference costs or the purchase of study aids ($ 1,000).
J-1 visa

Going on a Fulbright Scholarship is only possible on a J-1 visa which is sponsored by the US Department of State. The scholarship holder does not cover the costs of issuing a J-1 visa.

Medical care in the USA

During the scholarship, the scholarship holder is covered by the basic health care plan in accordance with the requirements of the J-1 visa – Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges (ASPE).

Preparation for the trip and care during the scholarship

The Fulbright Commission makes every effort to ensure that the scholarship holder is as well prepared as possible for the trip. Before departure, the scholarship holder participates in an information meeting, which is usually held in spring, concerning, inter alia, grant documentation, procedures and everyday life in the culture of the United States. Thanks to the invited alumni and alumni of the program, scholarship holders can receive first-hand advice and make useful contacts.
