PhD candidate position opportunity (cooperation between the Gdansk Tech-ESRF-SOLARIS)

The Institute of Nanotechnology and Materials Engineering invites to apply for a PhD candidate position in the scientific project entitled ‘Tuning CEria-based COMpounds as effective catalyst for Electrochemical Cells’.

The aim of this PhD project is to investigate the influence of double doping on the electrochemical activity of ceria-based compounds that can act as catalysts for fuel electrodes in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC)/Solid Oxide Electrolysis Cells (SOEC).

The studies will be based on structural characterization techniques at the microscopic scale (XAS, XRD) chemical characterizations and X-ray imaging, all coupled to 'operando' data collection. The research will be carried out as a collaboration between the LISA beamline in Grenoble (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility), the Gdansk University of Technology (Gdansk Tech) and the SOLARIS synchrotron. The electrodes will be prepared and characterized from an electrochemical point of view in Gdansk whereas the structural characterizations will be carried out at ESRF (LISA) and SOLARIS (beamlines DEMETER- STXM branch and PolyX) synchrotrons. The candidate will spend part of the time in Gdansk for the sample preparation/characterization, part in SOLARIS for nanoscale and microscale imaging and part at LISA for the structural characterization.

More info can be found on the website.
