Support for early stage researchers (ESR) by the NEPHEWS project
The NEPHEWS (NEutrons and PHotons Elevating Worldwide Science, https://beamtime.eu/) project financed by Horizon Europe (HORIZON-INFRA-2023-SERV-01), led by the National Synchrotron Radiation Centre SOLARIS (https://synchrotron.uj.edu.pl/), supports over 40,000 scientists by providing them with access to world-class European research infrastructure using photon (synchrotrons - SR and free electron lasers - FEL) and neutron (N) sources. Key activities of the NEPHEWS project include:
-
Transnational Access (TNA) program aims to support scientists by providing free access (on-site and remote) to RIs, enabling them to conduct experiments at installations and beamlines.
-
Twinning program is the transfer of knowledge necessary to function in the environment of RI, including organizational and technical skills, between a new user and an experienced research group.
-
Early Stage Researcher (ESR) support programincludes the organisation and financing of internships, trainings and working visits that enable young scientists to get to know the RIs from many perspectives.
The first round of Early Stage Researcher (ESR) support program is now open!!!
Apply by 15 November 2024!
On https://beamtime.eu/programmes-support/esrs/ you can find details of eligibility, which RI are hosting ESRs, the support that is offered and how to register!
The ESR programme in NEPHEWS allows for support of 24 young scientists. Participants accepted into the ESR Programme will get a practical short-term (up to 1 week) internship at a Synchrotron (SR), Free Electron Laser (FEL) or Neutron (N) facilities, gathering knowledge of different research techniques and on their applicability to different research fields, getting first practical experiences and gaining a better understanding of access policy, offer and other aspects of the facilities’ activities, such as technology transfer or innovation stimulation through individualized programmes.
The NEPHEWS project will support researchers denoted as R1 and R2:
- R1: First Stage Researcher (up to the point of PhD),
- R2: Recognised Researcher (PhD holders or equivalent who are not yet fully independent),
with the following priority criteria: a special focus on offering support to users firstly from 8 selected countries (Poland is one of these countries), and then secondly other EU Widening countries and countries without direct access to large scale research infrastructures in their country, and then lastly other qualified applicants.
