Visit of Professor Gamze Tanoğlu from the Izmir Institute of Technology at the Faculty
The Faculty of Applied Physics and Mathematics will have the privilege to host Professor Gamze Tanoğlu from the Department of Mathematics of İzmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH), the Vice-Rector of this university. Prof Tanoğlu is visiting us between the 6th and 10th of June within the frame of the Erasmus+ program and will run the classes on the chosen aspects of numerical methods for the Master students of Technical Physics and partial differential equations for the Bachelor students of Mathematics.
As a Vice-Rector of IZTECH, Professor Gamze Tanoğlu is responsible for education, social activities, and university libraries. She is also acting as the Head of the Distance Education Center, Children's Education Application and Research Centre, and Learning and Teaching Office of the university. She received her B.S degree from the Middle East Technical University (METU), Turkey. After her B.S. degree, she received a scholarship from the Ministry of Education of Turkey for pursuing Ph.D. studies in the USA. She completed her Ph.D. in applied mathematics at the University of Delaware, Department of Mathematics, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Richard Braun, where she worked on projects regarding the simulation of phase formation in metallic alloys, supported by NIST of USA.
Her research areas include numerical solutions of differential equations, numerical analysis, and simulations of real-life problems. She has supervised 5 Ph.D. theses and 16 Master theses. She took a part in 3 international projects, published more than 30 scientific papers, and gave many scientific talks.
Professor Gamze Tanoğlu will also meet with the representatives of our university to give us an overview of IZTECH and discuss the possibility of strengthening the collaboration between our institutions.
